Today’s makeover is more a refinish than a real makeover. No stunning transformation, just a little splash of gold paint to enhance the beauty of this mid-century style coffee table. This is a typical mid-century piece of furniture, with its sophisticated and elegant design. The table is made of teak wood. The legs are solid wood whereas the top is made of veneer. What makes this piece special is the removable shelf that can be used as a serving tray.
The coffee table is stamped with the “SAMCOM” mark. I made some quick research and discovered SAMCOM pieces of furniture were imported from Denmark to France in the 1960s.
To bring this piece back to its former glory, Amelie restored the legs’ base and top’s original finish. She also painted the legs base with gold paint. I’m sure that, following this makeover, you will want to add a mid-century touch to your home.

Prep Work
Cleaning
Like every makeover, it all started with a good cleaning. Amelie thoroughly cleaned the dresser and removed any dirt or debris that may have accumulated over time. Vacuuming and regular degreaser are great for this task! Discover how we clean old grungy furniture Here.
Sanding
The table legs and intermediate shelf were in good condition. Amelie sanded the legs and base with an electric sander and some medium-grit sandpaper. She was careful not to sand through the veneer on top of the table. For this delicate task, she used a hand-sanding block and some fine-grit sandpaper.
Makeover and Refinishing
A splash of gold paint
To give the table a modern twist, Amelie applied painter’s tape on the leg and painted the 4 legs base with “old gold” paint. Two coats of paint were enough to achieve a perfect finish, letting the first coat dry a couple of hours before applying the next one.
Finishing
Once the painting was done, Amelie finished up her makeover by applying 2 coats of polyurethane.
The result is an absolutely stunning coffee table that will be the talk of any gathering.
Remember that you can also bring your cup of coffee from the kitchen to the living room thanks to the removable shelf that can be used as a serving tray. So convenient!
With its timeless design and classic mid-century style, you can’t go wrong with this one!
